Meet Katie Cole originally from Melbourne, Australia, now based in Nashville, USA. Does she dominate with ballads? No. Does she compose songs on the piano? Rarely. What she does do then? She rocks and enjoys a loud guitar, a strong melodic hook and an up tempo folk rock song. In a short period of time this Australian landed herself in LA; on tour and recording with Glen Campbell and enlisting heavy weight icons like Kris Kristofferson to appear on her own new record aptly titled “Lay It All Down”. Which is exactly what she does here. Growing up on a strict diet of 70’s rock music from her Mom in one ear and Maria Callas from her Soprano classically trained Father in the other. Katie took a quick detour in music to KT Tunstall and Tom Petty and describes her own style of music as having flavors of American Country and British pop.

Behind the mixing board adding the depth of layers to her music is acclaimed Record Producer, Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Ok Go) who by chance found her Cole’s music on the web. He reached out to discuss working together and the rest is history. Katie jumped on a few planes back and forth before realising that stateside was where she wanted to be, whether in the industry buzz of LA or the cultural spur of Nashville. With 2 suitcases, a computer and her guitar, Katie upped and re-located to Los Angeles.

What followed was a string of locals awards, TV placements for her music and an illustrious award from Movado watches coupled with a national US national television ad campaign. Cole then found herself on tour and singing on “Ghost On the Canvas” the final studio album for another living legend, Glen Campbell. Katie picked up further momentum when her first American EP “Lost Inside a Moment” gained some unexpected but welcomed support from the UK. Cole had 2 songs play-listed on BBC Radio 2, and was also interviewed on Aled Jones’s Good Morning Sunday. Luck would have it, the1st single “I Can’t Wait” from the upcoming new album also gained several plays on BBC Radio 2. Katie is taking it all in stride touring both the UK and America. Most recently Katie has performed at festivals including SXSW, Sundance, Namm, ASCAP expo and several shows for Pinktober (breast cancer awareness month) at various Hard Rock Cafes throughout the USA. Cole has also enjoyed the perks of being an opening act for classic rock band America and the Smashing Pumpkins in 2015. This came about after opening for Billy Corgan in August of 2014 and she was then asked to open for Smashing Pumpkins on their multi-city “In Plainsong” tour. She pulled double duty by also joining the band on stage during their set on vocals and bass guitar.

“Lay It All Down” features a collection of songs penned in Los Angeles, Nashville and her hometown, Melbourne. There is also a guest vocal appearance by musical legend and silver-screen icon Kris Kristofferson on a song called “Penelope”. Producer Howard Willing enlisted some stellar musicians to perform on the album including 2 members of John Mayer’s band, drummer Aaron Sterling (Natasha Bedingfield, Glen Campbell), Bassist Sean Hurley (Kristofferson, Colbie Caillat), pianist Roger Manning Jr (Jellyfish, Beck) and veteran guitarist Tim Pierce (Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill). This album delivers a depth of personality. With timeless songs, some reminiscent of early Fleetwood Mac but with the lyrical prowess of Sheryl Crow. Cole delivers on this record and with the same expressive and warm vocals we’ve come to expect from the songstress. “Lay It All Down” is out now on Cd, Vinyl and Digital.
">
